President appoints three new judges to High Court

The Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) has announced its intention to appeal a recent High Court decision acquitting a 15-year-old boy of murder. The decision was made on September 14, when the Shah Alam High Court found the teenager, then 14, not guilty under Section 302 of the Penal Code. The AGC's statement, filed on September 22, seeks to overturn this verdict through the Court of Appeal.

The case involves the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old female student in a school toilet in Petaling Jaya on October 14, 2025. The accused was charged under Section 302, which can result in the death penalty or a prison sentence between 30 and 40 years, though Malaysian law prevents capital punishment for juvenile offenders under 18.

During the trial, the defense successfully used the "unsoundness of mind" argument under Section 84 of the Penal Code. The court ultimately ordered the teenager to be admitted to Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta in Perak for psychiatric care, in line with Section 97 of the Child Act 2001. Eleven prosecution witnesses, two defense witnesses, including the accused, and a camera-recorded trial were part of the proceedings.
