Pas hits out at Penang Umno's push to strengthen PH-BN ties

Penang Pas has criticized state Umno's efforts to strengthen relationships with Pakatan Harapan (PH), arguing that such cooperation should not take precedence over Malay-Muslim unity. Ustaz Muhammad Fawwaz Mohamad Jan, the information chief of Penang Pas, emphasized that unity should be the top priority for Malay-Muslims at both the state and national levels.

He criticized state Umno leader Datuk Rashidi Zinol for advocating closer ties with PH, despite DAP adviser Lim Guan Eng publicly urging the removal of Umno from the state administration. Fawwaz pointed out that Umno holds only one executive councillor seat in Penang, making its position susceptible to the discretion of PH and DAP.

He cited the example of Negeri Sembilan, where the Barisan Nasional (BN) has engaged in talks with Perikatan Nasional, to illustrate that political unity is attainable with sufficient political will. While acknowledging Umno's political choice, Fawwaz stated that Penang Pas remains open to dialogue. Ultimately, he said, voters will determine which party is most committed to safeguarding the nation.

On Tuesday, Rashidi, the sole BN representative in Penang's executive council, stated that cooperation between PH and BN must continue to strengthen to ensure political stability and protect public interests. He expressed hope that the spirit of cooperation and understanding between PH and BN in Penang would be preserved for the state's stability and the well-being of its people.
