Pakistan Now on OpenAI’s Radar

Pakistan has come under the attention of OpenAI's leadership, as Minister of State and Chairman of the Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (PVARA), Bilal Bin Saqib, met with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman at the United Nations. The meeting took place to discuss how Pakistan can secure a more prominent position in the global artificial intelligence (AI) economy.

In a LinkedIn post, Saqib shared details of the conversation, highlighting Pakistan's young talent pool, abundant energy resources, and robust digital infrastructure as assets that can be leveraged to establish a meaningful presence in the rapidly growing AI sector. Saqib emphasized that Pakistan's goal should transcend mere AI adoption, advocating for the country to actively participate in the creation of the Intelligence Age.

OpenAI's CEO had addressed the UN Security Council on a prior occasion, joining discussions with other prominent AI industry leaders. The PVARA chairman has previously contended that developing countries must shift their focus from merely adopting emerging technologies to actively shaping the underlying infrastructure, standards, and systems that support them.
