Obi-Kwankwaso Movement defies NDC, insists on independent structures

The Obi-Kwankwaso Movement, also known as the OK Movement, has defiantly refused to merge its structures with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 elections. John Ughulu, the movement's Director-General, stated that the OK Movement would not allow itself to be absorbed by the NDC or any other organization. Ughulu clarified that the OK Movement is an independently organized, managed, and structured political entity, separate from any support group or political party.

He emphasized that the movement comprises individuals and members from various political parties who share a common commitment to the ideals and aspirations of the presidential candidates, Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso. The movement plans to continue mobilizing support for the candidates while maintaining its independence and internal administration, asserting that its cooperation with the NDC does not equate to organizational subordination.

Ughulu warned against any attempt to take over the movement's structures and stressed that the OK Movement does not claim supremacy over the NDC or seek to usurp the party's constitutional powers. The disagreement arose when the NDC National Chairman, Moses Cleopas, claimed the party did not authorize the OK Movement to establish a presidential campaign council to mobilize support for Obi and Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 general elections.
