Obi-Kwankwaso Movement defies NDC, insists on independent structures

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement, known as the OK Movement, have been embroiled in a conflict over the former's insistence on maintaining its independent structures ahead of the 2027 elections. OK Movement's Director-General, John Ughulu, stated that the group would not allow any organization, including the NDC, to absorb its national, state, local government, and ward structures.

This stance comes in response to NDC National Leader Seriake Dickson's comments on the role of support groups in the party's 2027 campaign. Dickson argued that support groups should complement the party rather than compete with it or operate as separate entities. Ughulu rejected Dickson's description of the OK Movement's decision to establish a presidential campaign council as "nonsensical," emphasizing that the movement, comprising supporters of NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi and running mate Rabiu Kwankwaso, is an independent political organization.

Ughulu warned against any attempts to subsume or dissolve the OK Movement's structures, asserting that the group's existence and internal administration are not subject to the NDC's management.
