Nova Scotia man faces multiple charges after teacher accused of assaulting student

Nova Scotia's government has spent a record $1.9 billion outside of the budget process during the 2025-26 fiscal year, according to Finance Minister John Lohr. The Progressive Conservative government required flexibility to allocate funds for various initiatives that were not included in the budget, a concept known as "additional appropriations."

These funds were used to cover essential expenditures such as $40.4 million for public works projects and $13.8 million for emergency management during the 2025 wildfire season. Despite slightly higher-than-expected revenue of nearly $18 billion, the province ended the fiscal year with a staggering $1.4 billion deficit, marking the highest deficit on record.

The budget discrepancy highlighted by Lohr at a news conference underscores the significant gap between the $19.4 billion spent and the revenue generated.
