No nation thrives without gender inclusion – Bamidele declares in New York

Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, the Senate Leader, recently declared at a book launch in New York that no country can fully realize its potential when a significant portion of its population is unable to contribute to governance and development. He emphasized that the inclusion of women in public governance should not be seen as a favor, but as a strategic investment in Nigeria's human capital and institutional strength.

Bamidele made these remarks on Thursday at the book presentation event, "The Female Diplomat: Navigating Power, Ambition and Identity," held at Nigeria House in New York. The event gathered key figures including the United Nations' Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, Minister of Foreign Affairs Amb. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Nigeria's Permanent Representative to the UN Amb. Jimoh Ibrahim, and Ambassador Kayode Are.

The Senator chaired the book launch and highlighted that Nigeria's democracy can only be strengthened when all citizens are adequately represented in the institutions that serve them. He reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's commitment to Nigeria's development, which he stated must draw on the abilities of all citizens. This vision is encapsulated in the Renewed Hope Agenda, where President Tinubu consistently affirms the importance of not sidelining women and young people in national life.

Bamidele stressed that meaningful inclusion extends beyond mere representation in institutions. It demands genuine opportunities for women to participate in decision-making, assume responsibilities, and contribute to the formulation and execution of public policy. He firmly believes that gender inclusion is crucial to Nigeria's future and that of the world in the 21st century.

Furthermore, the Senator underscored how enriched Nigeria's foreign relations become when the country is represented by professionals whose knowledge and experience mirror the diverse talents within the nation. He assured that the National Assembly will persist in promoting fair, accessible, and responsive institutions through legislation, representation, and oversight. This commitment aims to create an environment where competence is acknowledged and leadership is fortified by the active participation of competent women.
