Niger Bridge vandalism: Monitor scrap markets, Umahi tells Anambra, Delta govs

Minister of Works, David Umahi, has urged governors of Anambra and Delta states to closely monitor their respective scrap markets in order to prevent further vandalism and theft of critical infrastructure at the First Niger Bridge. This recommendation came during Umahi's assessment of the ongoing rehabilitation work at the bridge's Onitsha end, which connects Anambra and Delta states.

Umahi expressed his disappointment with the vandals, stating that the federal government had spent significant funds on fixing the vandalized bolts, nuts, and expansion joints. The bridge had been closed to traffic from September 7 to 21 for emergency repairs, but the closure was extended by a week due to persistent rainfall impacting the rehabilitation process.
