Nawrocki at UN calls for decisive joint response to Russian provocations

Polish President Andrzej Nawrocki addressed the United Nations General Assembly, emphasizing the need for a resolute joint response to Russia's provocations. He condemned Russia's attempts to conquer a neighboring state and destabilize the region, which contravenes the UN Charter. Nawrocki highlighted Russia's destabilizing influence in Europe through aggression, hybrid operations, sabotage, and subversion, echoing the imperial arrogance that caused the tragic events of two world wars.

He stressed that it is not yet too late to uphold international law and fortify the principles that underpin a functional global system. Noting Russia's imperial and neocolonial worldview, Nawrocki stressed that Poland is acutely aware of Russia's colonial past and current actions. As a neighboring country, Poland firmly rejects seeking confrontation and is instead fortifying alliances, bolstering military capabilities, and modernizing equipment to prevent conflict.

Poland maintains that NATO is the cornerstone of European security. Nawrocki warned that Russia's hybrid war against Europe includes sabotage, cyberattacks, destabilization operations, and even a fabricated migration crisis. He emphasized that these actions are part of a deliberate, well-coordinated strategy, and called for a united, firm, and consistent response.

During his address, Nawrocki also advocated for Poland's permanent involvement in the G20, representing Central Europe and its unique challenges and the importance of stable international economic rules. A U.S. Central Intelligence Agency warning about a potential Russian provocation targeting underwater telecommunications infrastructure in the Baltic Sea further underscored the escalating tensions.
