Mets' Nolan McLean puts finishing touches on excellent rookie campaign: 'Proud of him'

However, in the fifth inning, McLean allowed two runs on three hits and a walk. Green had predicted this earlier, noting that McLean usually performs well but occasionally struggles in one inning. McLean returned strong after that, retiring the next six batters in order on just 13 pitches. He maintained that game plan in the sixth inning and completed his fourth perfect inning of the season.

McLean finished his rookie campaign with a 12-10 record, a 3.16 ERA, and eighth-lowest ERA in the NL. He was the only Mets starter who didn't miss a single start this season. Despite the challenging fifth inning, Green praised McLean's performance and expressed pride in the season he had. Green also noted that McLean's body of work is impressive, even if his velocity was slightly down in the latest outing.
