Bears Can Sign Ex-Lions QB Amid Caleb Williams, Tyson Bagent Injuries

The Chicago Bears found themselves in a dire situation at quarterback after injuries to Caleb Williams and Tyson Bagent. With starting QB Case Keenum likely to miss games due to a hamstring strain, the Bears' depth chart deteriorated rapidly. Undrafted rookie Miller Moss emerged as the only option to serve as Keenum's backup. In light of these circumstances, the team considered signing veteran quarterback Hendon Hooker, who was a member of the Tennessee Titans' practice squad.

Hooker, a third-round pick of the Detroit Lions in 2023, had a limited tenure with the team, appearing in only three games in 2024. Despite his limited experience, Hooker's familiarity with the Bears' offense, under head coach Ben Johnson, made him an attractive option for the Bears. Signing Hooker would not require a draft trade, as he was already on the Titans' practice squad.

However, the Bears would need to guarantee him three weeks of salary and elevate him to the active roster, consuming one of their 53 roster spots. The move would provide the Bears with much-needed depth in case Williams or Bagent sustained further injuries.
