Malaysia, Nepal to streamline labour recruitment, curb abuses

Malaysia and Nepal have committed to streamlining their labour recruitment process, aiming to eliminate exploitative practices and ensure greater transparency. Human resources minister R Ramanan of Malaysia disclosed this during a phone conversation with his Nepali counterpart, Ramjee Yadav. The two countries also discussed strengthening bilateral ties in the realm of labour and employment.

Ramanan emphasized that both nations recognize the necessity of a more orderly, transparent recruitment process. He added that they must address issues that burden workers with excessive costs or subject them to exploitation by unscrupulous middlemen. Malaysia, according to Ramanan, remains steadfast in its commitment to managing foreign workers in a manner that upholds principles of integrity, transparency, accountability, and worker protection.

He stressed that the system must safeguard workers, support employers, and simultaneously prevent exploitation and abuse.

The diplomatic relationship between Malaysia and Nepal, which has endured since 1960, will continue to serve as a foundation for their ongoing cooperation in labour and employment matters.
