Lee pays respects to patriots of Mexico ahead of summit with Sheinbaum

Mexico City — In a gesture of respect, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung paid homage to the fallen heroes of Mexico on Thursday, prior to his planned summit with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum in the capital. The South Korean leader placed flowers at the Altar a la Patria in Chapultepec Park, a prominent national monument dedicated to Mexico's national defenders and military figures.

Following this solemn act, Lee prepared to engage in summit discussions with Sheinbaum, participate in a ceremony marking the signing of bilateral agreements between the nations, and issue a joint press statement.

During a recent interview with the Mexican newspaper El Universal, released on Wednesday, Lee articulated his belief that merging South Korea's technological prowess with Mexico's robust industrial foundation could spur new economic growth. He highlighted artificial intelligence and supply chains as key areas where the two countries could collaborate. This visit is part of a state trip aimed at bolstering trade and investment ties, as well as deepening cooperation across sectors such as energy and critical minerals.
