(LEAD) Lee, Sheinbaum hold summit to discuss deepening cooperation

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung engaged in summit discussions with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum in Mexico City on Thursday, aiming to bolster cooperation across multiple sectors, including supply chains and artificial intelligence (AI). Lee had arrived in Mexico on Tuesday for a three-day state visit, marking the first such visit by a South Korean president in 16 years.

Following the summit, both leaders are scheduled to partake in a ceremony for signing agreements between Mexico and South Korea, as well as deliver a joint press statement summarizing their bilateral summit outcomes. In a recent interview with Mexican newspaper El Universal, Lee highlighted the potential for growth by merging South Korea's technological prowess with Mexico's robust industrial foundation, citing AI and supply chains as key areas for collaboration.

He also emphasized that there is significant potential for further deepening cooperation in strategic domains such as semiconductors, aerospace, and electric vehicles. Prior to the summit, Lee paid homage to fallen heroes of Mexico by laying flowers at the Altar a la Patria in Chapultepec Park, a prominent national monument dedicated to Mexico's national defenders and military heroes.
