Lamola criticises G20 silence over SA’s exclusion in US meetings

International Relations Minister Ronald Lamola has voiced his dissatisfaction that other G20 nations have remained quiet following South Africa's exclusion from their meetings in the United States. Speaking at an event hosted by the prestigious Council on Foreign Relations in New York, Lamola expressed that South Africa is disappointed at the prospect of missing the G20 Summit in the US. He reiterated that South Africa remains prepared to participate if an invitation is extended.

South Africa has also stated it will not attempt to "gatecrash" the US meetings uninvited or attempt to pressure others to boycott the summit. However, the country's chief diplomat has clarified that South Africa would be ready to participate should the United States reconsider its stance.

Addressing a US audience, Lamola debunked claims of genocide in South Africa, stating they are "fake news". He also highlighted that the three branches of government are working to maintain the country's unity and diversity. Furthermore, he indicated that refugees who have left South Africa for the United States could be welcomed back if they choose to return.
