Jigawa police arrest motorcycle-snatching syndicate over alleged killing of nine, theft of 33 motorcycles

The Jigawa State Police Command has apprehended members of a motorcycle-snatching syndicate accused of killing nine individuals and stealing 33 motorcycles across three states. According to a statement released on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, disclosed that the syndicate specialized in motorcycle theft, handling stolen property, and engaging in other violent crimes in Kaduna, Kano, and Jigawa states.

The breakthrough occurred following an incident where a suspect allegedly snatched a motorcycle from an Okada rider in Aujara District, Jahun Local Government Area of Jigawa State. Following the incident, the police, in collaboration with vigilantes, swiftly responded, recovered the stolen motorcycle, and apprehended the suspect.

This led to the identification and arrest of other alleged members of the syndicate operating across the three states. During their investigation, the suspects reportedly admitted to their involvement in stealing at least 33 motorcycles from innocent members of the public in various locations and confessed to the alleged killing of nine people during their criminal activities.

The arrested suspects include Ado Saleh, alias Datti, 55, from Kawari village, Ajingi LGA, Kano State; Abdullahi Saidu, 37, from Kwanar Dangora village, Kano State; and Magaji Danladi from Auramo Quarters, Ringim LGA, Jigawa State. Other suspects are Sabiu Miko from Kaugama LGA; Habibu Dan Iya from Didi village, Gagarawa LGA; Shamsu Sani, 32, from Ajingi LGA, Kano State; Ali Salisu, 40, from Yanbaru settlement, Sule Tankarkar LGA; Alhassan Isa, alias Tata, from Shuwarin, Kiyawa LGA; and Ado Ali from Baranda village, Dutse LGA.

The Jigawa State Police Commissioner, CP Tijjani Murtala, praised the police personnel involved in the operation.
