I’ve worn the Meta VR Glasses, and they’re coming to eat Apple's lunch

Meta Connect concluded with Meta unveiling its highly anticipated VR glasses, which outperform Apple's competing product in the eyes of one reporter. After a brief 30-minute hands-on experience, the writer was impressed by the lightweight and sleek design, weighing in at just over 100g. The glasses eliminate the traditional headstrap and instead utilize stems for stability, housing the majority of the weight in a pocket-sized puck.

Unlike other devices, Meta's headset contains the headset's compute and tether to the glasses via an optical cable, ensuring minimal interference during use. While no controllers were provided, hand and pinch controls were employed, similar to Apple's Vision Pro and Samsung Galaxy XR. Notably, the glasses support prescription inserts and remain comfortable even after extended use.

The device's capabilities are extensive, supporting all existing Meta Quest 3 apps, with an added advantage of supporting up to three virtual monitors and converting surfaces into a keyboard. Entertainment-wise, the glasses offer an immersive 5K micro-OLED screen, boasting a resolution of 37 pixel-per-degree, rivaling the likes of Apple and Samsung.

With support for the IMAX Enhanced Format, the glasses provide stunning visuals and audio, making it a compelling choice for both work and entertainment. Unfortunately, the device's official release is slated for spring 2027, but at a relatively affordable price of $1,299.
