Irfan apologises after failing to deliver Asian Games medal

NAGOYA: Discus thrower Irfan Shamsuddin has expressed regret for Malaysia after failing to secure a medal at the Asian Games today. Arriving in Japan well-prepared, Irfan admitted his disappointment in not achieving a top eight finish, with his best throw registering just 56.37 metres for a tenth-place placement. This result effectively ended his medal prospects.

Irfan's gold went to China's Abuduaini Tuergong, who threw 64.26 metres, while Wu Nanjun took silver at 61.58 metres. Iran's Sadegh Samimishalamzari claimed bronze with 60.32 metres. Despite his efforts, Irfan maintained that his technique and body positioning were sound, but he couldn't explain why his throw fell short. He emphasized that the setback would not diminish his spirit, describing it as a learning experience.

Irfan apologized to Malaysian fans, acknowledging the disappointment they felt, and framed the situation as part of an athlete's journey, stating that ups and downs are part of the process. He urged Malaysians to reset and start anew, respecting the effort and determination displayed in the competition.
