Iranian-American group sues Trump for 'unconstitutional' war on Iran

The National Iranian American Council (NIAC), a Washington, DC-based civic engagement organisation, has filed a lawsuit against US President Donald Trump. The legal action seeks to declare the US war on Iran unconstitutional, claiming Trump did not obtain congressional authorization for the conflict and lacks a plan to terminate it.

The petition for a declaratory judgment was submitted by constitutional attorneys Alan Morrison and Bruce Fein in the US District Court for the District of Columbia. Speaking at the announcement at the National Press Club, Morrison stated, "We'll take it as far as we can, whether the court wants to hear us or not." He also acknowledged the Supreme Court's historical reluctance to address the war power issue over 236 years, but emphasized that this is an "unprecedented time" due to both chambers of Congress voting against the war.
