Ghana’s road to Pamoja 2027 begins with defeat as Bouaké curse continues

Ghana's journey to the Pamoja 2027 tournament began with a setback as they suffered a 2-0 loss to Ivory Coast in Bouaké, continuing their recent difficulties against their West African counterparts. From the start, Ivory Coast took control, dominating possession and pressuring Ghana's defense, especially from their side of the field.

The Ivorian wingers, Diomandé and Nicolas Pépé, put pressure on Ghana's fullbacks, making it tough for them to launch effective attacks. For the majority of the first half, Ghana found themselves on the back foot and struggled to create any significant chances.

The turning point came when Malick Yalcouyé, a Brighton player, scored a long-range goal, leveling the score at 1-1. This was followed by a penalty conceded by Ghana's Fatawu Issahaku, which was converted by Franck Kessié, captain of Ivory Coast. The goal was a well-taken penalty, and the Ivorian crowd erupted in celebration. Ghana's situation grew even more dire when their captain, Alexander Djiku, suffered an injury and had to be substituted.

While the Black Stars showed signs of improvement after the substitutions, their slow start proved costly. They spent too much time reacting rather than imposing themselves against the disciplined and dangerous Ivorian side.
