Germany probes 105-year-old over Nazi camp crimes

Dortmund prosecutors are investigating an 105-year-old man for alleged involvement in the murders at Stalag 326 VI K, a Nazi prisoner-of-war camp located in Senne, north-western Germany during World War Two. According to BBC, the suspect is said to have served as a guard at the camp. Sonja Frodermann, a public prosecutor from Dortmund, mentioned that a similar investigation was also carried out against another former guard of the camp, who passed away several months ago at the age of 99.

The details of the two former guards have not been disclosed, and the investigation comes as German prosecutors struggle with the pursuit of alleged Nazi-era crimes more than 80 years after the conclusion of World War Two. The majority of surviving suspects are now elderly. Stalag 326 was one of the largest prisoner-of-war camps in Nazi Germany, housing between 180,000 and 200,000 Soviet prisoners of war between 1941 and 1945.

The camp has been infamous for its poor living conditions, forced labor, and significant loss of life, with tens of thousands of prisoners believed to have died there.
