Ekuiti 30% Bumiputera: Puteri Umno gesa Srikandi PKR jangan alih isu

Puteeri Umno Pulau Pinang's Ameera Nadia Mohd Shafiee has appealed to Srikandi PKR's Puteri Umno leader Nurhidayah Che Rose not to divert the issue of the new 30% Bumiputera equity requirement for private education institutions to the previous administration. Ameera claims Nurhidayah should address the real issue, including why the Ministry of Education (KPM) linked the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI) to the matter.

She questions why, if the adjustment is simply a 2012 standard implementation, it was announced as a new adjustment. Ameera also points out that Nurhidayah's statement yesterday, which called on Puteri Umno's Nooryana Najwa Najib to reference the previous government's decision by her father, was unseemly. Nurhidayah previously noted in April 2009, when Najib became prime minister, that the government announced the liberalization of 27 service sectors without equity requirements, followed by the extension to several education sectors three years later.

Ameera urges Srikandi PKR not to link Najib's name to every issue concerning this decision. She also urges the government to clarify whether MITI truly participated in the discussions and whether the Ministry of Economics was involved and approved the decision. Ameera warns against shifting the issue to 2009 and 2012 and asks the people to know who made the decision, who was consulted, and the basis of the adjustment.

Recently, Nooryana said KPM must quickly clarify and explain why MITI was linked to the adjustment in private education institutions' equity requirements. Nooryana also said her ministry has no information about the KPM decision to revoke the requirement, while explaining that equity ownership in Bumiputera companies is under the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) of the Ministry of Economics.
