Ejisu Police release parents, arrest caretaker over missing five-month-old baby from Asafo Market

The Ejisu Police have released the parents and an uncle of a five-month-old baby who was allegedly stolen from the Asafo Market in Kumasi. The three individuals – Freda Owusu, her husband Emmanuel Acheampong, and Mr. Osei Kuffour – were initially arrested for falsely accusing a woman named Aliya Salomey of stealing their child. The arrest occurred after the parents identified a baby found with Salomey as their missing child and shared the claim on social media.

Following a subsequent identification parade, it was determined that the baby in Salomey's care was not theirs, leading to their arrest for false information and defamation. The trio has since been released following a preliminary screening. However, the police have now arrested the woman who was reportedly entrusted with the baby before it went missing, pending further investigation.

The baby was reportedly taken from the Cape Coast Bus Terminal section of the Asafo Market, near Opera Site, early on Sunday, September 20, 2026. The case has been transferred to the Asokwa Police Station for further investigation after the parents initially reported the theft to Ejisu Police.
