Crew member killed, 27 evacuated after ship targeted near Strait of Hormuz

A commercial ship in the Strait of Hormuz was struck by an unidentified projectile, resulting in the death of one crew member and the evacuation of 27 others, according to Omani authorities. The Royal Navy of Oman, working with relevant authorities, evacuated the crew of the Antigua and Barbuda-flagged vessel Cape Dao, which experienced a fire in the engine room upon being targeted 2.5 nautical miles off Musandam Governorate.

The attack occurred just hours before the UK Maritime Trade Operations reported a cargo vessel had been similarly targeted while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, also causing a fire and leaving the ship stranded. The incident highlights the ongoing security concerns in the strategically vital waterway, which has seen disruptions since a war broke out between Iran, the US, and Israel in late February.
