Accused arrested in Delhi teen gangrape was police informer earlier: Probe

An alleged gangrape of a 17-year-old girl at Aastha Kunj Park in Southeast Delhi has led to the arrest of three individuals, with one of them turning out to be a former police informer. The incident occurred on Monday night, and all three perpetrators were apprehended by Tuesday morning. Asif, a 34-year-old vegetable vendor and former police informant, was identified from the girl's description.

Police found that Asif had been previously caught on allegations of eve-teasing but was released since no complaint was filed. The girl and her 17-year-old male companion reported that the accused posed as police personnel and used police terminology during questioning. Following Asif's arrest, his accomplices, Hemant, a lawyer, and his brother Mukesh, a B.Sc. student, were also apprehended.

Police are investigating whether Asif misused his past affiliation with police personnel to evade suspicion in the area.
