Brotherly bond helps Chapman twins emerge as standouts for UTSA

Ahamad Chapman, a cornerback for the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), has emerged as a standout player alongside his twin brother Asaad this season. The two brothers, who began their college football journey at the same high school, reunited as teammates at UTSA in 2026. Ahamad spent time helping Asaad adjust to the new environment and teaching him the intricacies of the defensive schemes, which proved crucial when the brothers played together last season.

Coach Jeff Traylor noticed the strong bond between the brothers during the First Responder Bowl last year, as Asaad was a spectator cheering on his brother Ahamad. This closeness has been instrumental in helping both players excel in their respective roles. Ahamad shared that initially, he tried to help his brother too much, which slowed him down, but once he backed off, Asaad began to excel and focus on himself.

However, the brothers understand the importance of time apart as well, allowing them to grow individually and be coached more effectively. Ahamad admitted that he tends to take things personally, but the brothers often point out each other's mistakes and offer solutions. UTSA's cornerback coach, Nick Graham, has learned to give Asaad more space to play his position, even though the two are very close in terms of size and skills.

While their playstyles differ slightly—Ahamad is a bit bigger at 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds, compared to Asaad's 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds—both players are described as lanky, athletic, and coachable. Asaad, who had initially received Division I offers out of high school, chose to join UTSA and reunite with his brother, a decision that has since paid off. He described this reunion as a dream come true, and he remains focused on his own performance and development rather than the potential of transitioning to the NFL.
