Be professional, not vengeful, PAS told over PN suspension

Former Umno leader Puad Zarkashi has cautioned PAS to maintain a professional demeanor and avoid holding grudges following the Registrar of Societies' suspension of Perikatan Nasional (PN). Puad pointed out that PAS leader's warning of potential future retribution if PAS attains power indicates an intent to seek revenge once it gains federal authority.

He observed PAS's treatment of Barisan Nasional (BN) ally Bersatu, which has occurred even though PAS has yet to assume power, suggesting a pattern of aggressive behavior if it were to gain power. Puad emphasized that PAS should demonstrate professionalism after Bersatu lodged a complaint with the Registrar of Societies, given that PN has only been suspended and given 30 days to respond.

He also highlighted Umno's survival despite past defeats, noting that Umno has not held grudges against its rivals. Puad cited the successful registration of Wawasan and Rafizi Ramli's Bersama as instances of the Registrar of Societies granting registrations following complaints. The suspension of PN was announced earlier today, following a 30-day deadline for the coalition to explain a complaint lodged by Bersatu.

This action came amidst deteriorating relations between Bersatu and PAS since PAS assumed the PN chairmanship in February. In June, PAS terminated its political cooperation with Bersatu. PN Secretary-General Takiyuddin Hassan suggested political pressure may be a factor in the suspension, while coalition partner Wawasan questioned the timing, citing the upcoming Melaka state election.

PAS Information Chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari attributed the suspension to a politically motivated move intended to hinder PN's progress, but cautioned that PAS should ultimately act professionally.
