Scaloni, who led Argentina to the 2022 World Cup title, contributed to ensuring Messi would have one final appearance before his fans. The coach emphasized his desire to be present for Messi's farewell and secured his participation in the match. Messi, who recently celebrated his 100th goal for Inter Miami, is a strong contender for another Ballon d'Or.

Argentina's next friendly matches against Bolivia and Burkina Faso will take place in September and October, with Messi joining the squad for the final game against Benin on October 6. Scaloni has not commented on his own future as Argentina's coach, as his contract expires at the end of the year.
