Anwar’s ‘Rethinking Ourselves’ launched in Mandarin in China

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has officially published his book 'Rethinking Ourselves: Justice, Reform, and Ignorance in Postnormal Times' in Mandarin Chinese. The prime minister expressed hope that the translated edition would foster greater exchanges of ideas, cultures, and civilisations between Malaysia and China. The Mandarin version, published by World Affairs Press under China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was launched in Hangzhou and features a print run of approximately 5,000 copies.

Translated by Dr Yan Lijin, the book does not focus on Anwar's personal life but rather delves into themes such as colonialism, imperialism, the emergence of independent nations, and the quest to define national identity. Anwar highlighted the centuries-long historical ties between Malaysia and China, emphasizing that despite their differences, the two countries can still build mutually beneficial relationships.

He urged for continued efforts to bridge understanding and prevent a widening divide caused by prejudice and distrust. The original English edition was released in October 2025 by Penguin Random House Southeast Asia. Anwar's three-day trip to Shanghai and Hangzhou comes as China remains Malaysia's largest trading partner for 17 consecutive years, with bilateral trade surpassing US$113.82 billion (RM456.68 billion) in the first eight months of the year.
