Amazon has started installing cameras on its electric delivery vans to enhance road safety, as part of its ongoing commitment to driver and vehicle safety. The 360-degree cameras, developed by Netradyne, can detect vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians from all angles and alert drivers. By the end of the year, these cameras will be installed in 50% of Amazon's Rivian electric delivery vehicles.

Amazon-branded vehicles, whether from Rivian or other manufacturers, are equipped with in-vehicle camera safety technology. These cameras have contributed to a decrease in distracted driving, speeding, and other traffic violations. Besides safety improvements, Amazon is also boosting driver pay by $1 to attract and retain drivers.

The company has invested over $543 million in safety initiatives for independent business owners operating delivery fleets for Amazon. Additionally, Amazon is introducing dynamic hazard alerts in the Delivery app, providing real-time notifications about accidents, road closures, and construction along a driver's route. The company is also refining its AI-powered systems for better route planning and fleet management.

Amazon's driver assistance technology includes AI-driven smart glasses that provide real-time navigation and delivery details, helping drivers stay focused on the road. Since last year, Amazon has installed simulators at 30 driver training centers, aiming to reach 40 by the end of the year. This funding will increase driver pay by an average of 16%, with the national average rising to approximately $24 per hour.

This investment in technology and driver welfare highlights Amazon's role as a leader in the parcel market and its ongoing efforts to improve safety and efficiency in its delivery services.
