Detroit Tigers manager A.J. Hinch has unambiguously endorsed Kevin McGonigle for the American League Rookie of the Year title during a recent appearance on MLB Network Radio. Hinch stated, "Kevin McGonigle is the Rookie of the Year. I'm planting my flag." This direct endorsement goes beyond mere support for his player, as evidence demonstrates McGonigle's complete package as the most valuable player on the team during a challenging season.

McGonigle has distinguished himself with an impressive combination of offensive production, plate discipline, defense, and availability. Through 153 games, he has batted .278 with a .378 on-base percentage and an .806 OPS, combining for 165 hits, 17 home runs, 70 RBIs, 95 runs, 28 doubles, and 12 stolen bases. His OPS+ of 130 indicates that his offensive performance is about 30% better than the league average, considering factors like ballpark and league conditions.
