Yakasai accuses Kano government of blocking ADC campaign billboards

Salihu Tanko Yakasai, a key figure within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has accused the Kano State Government of obstructing the opposition party's efforts to display campaign billboards throughout the state. The ADC member made the claim on his Facebook page on Wednesday, alleging that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's administration has restricted the ADC's ability to utilize billboards to promote its political agenda in Kano.

The state government has previously implemented regulations regarding outdoor advertising and the display of political posters. In June 2023, the government announced limitations on unsolicited outdoor advertising and poster placement, urging entities to utilize approved billboards and digital platforms. However, it remains unclear whether Yakasai's statement pertains to the broader advertising regulations or a unique restriction imposed on the ADC.

In response to the alleged situation, Yakasai expressed surprise at the perceived oppression within Kano, stating that such actions by the APC had not been witnessed in the region before. He reminded Governor Yusuf of the temporary nature of power, urging him to remember his origins before assuming office. Yakasai cautioned that political positions can be temporary and that those currently in power may face different circumstances in the future.

He also referred to Governor Yusuf's prior political experiences, noting that individuals previously accused by the governor of oppression are now under his control. "Those you claim oppressed you yesterday are now under your authority, but you do not know where Allah may place you tomorrow," Yakasai remarked. He called for political leaders to exercise restraint and refrain from actions that could be perceived as suppressing opposition voices.
