Venezuelan shot by ICE needs urgent medical care, mother tells AFP

On Wednesday, the family of a Venezuelan man shot by US immigration agents expressed urgent need for medical care to AFP. Wilber Rafael Garces Perez, 28, was working in Austin, Texas, on Sunday when ICE agents attacked his vehicle and fired a bullet near his spine. The incident, the latest in a series of violent actions by ICE agents enforcing President Trump's immigration policies, left Garces paralyzed on the left side of his body and in severe pain.

He remains under federal ICE custody, having been hospitalized twice without receiving adequate treatment, only receiving painkillers so far. His mother, Flor Perez, lives with her son, who suffers from cerebral palsy, and depends on his father's financial support for his medical needs. ICE, Homeland Security Investigations, and the FBI are investigating the shooting.

Garces' relatives in Venezuela condemned the lack of transparency in the operation, with his aunt denouncing the excessive use of force and questioning the validity of the reason given for the shooting. His grandmother expressed deep concern for her grandson, hoping for a positive resolution to the situation.
