UWCL: Sonia Bompastor believes Chelsea ‘have the quality’ to win the Champions League

Chelsea head coach Sonia Bompastor believes her team have the quality to win the UEFA Women's Champions League (UWCL), despite the upcoming campaign's challenges. Before the first league match against Austria Wien on Wednesday, Bompastor emphasized the importance of focusing on the immediate task at hand. While acknowledging the squad's capabilities, she cautioned against looking too far ahead, stating that the season will be long and the English league is competitive.

Bompastor warned against underestimating Austria Wien, who are competing in the Champions League for the first time. She noted that her coaching staff has analyzed the Austrian side and identified potential weaknesses. Additionally, Bompastor highlighted the growing partnership between Keira Walsh and Lexi Potter in midfield, which has provided the Chelsea manager with another midfield option.

The head coach also discussed Chelsea's tactical flexibility, explaining that the 3-4-3 formation is currently working well due to player availability and conditioning. However, she emphasized the importance of adapting the team's formation based on the squad's conditions and opposition. Chelsea will be without Lauren James for the Austria Wien match due to a minor knock in training, while Erin Cuthbert, Manaka Matsukubo, and Aggie Beever-Jones have returned to training but are not yet fit for competitive action.
