Tribunal antibuli terima 55 aduan, 5 kes selesai

The Malaysian Anti-Bullying Tribunal, established last June, received 55 complaints by yesterday, Minister of Law and Institutional Reform Azalina Othman Said reported. Of these cases, five were concluded through awards, including one where the bully was ordered to apologize, undergo counseling, and compensate the victim with RM2,000.

This demonstrates the Tribunal's approach towards anti-bullying, which goes beyond punitive measures and emphasizes victim recovery and offender rehabilitation, she said in a statement. The 2026 Anti-Bullying Act and the tribunal provide a special mechanism to handle bullying issues through restorative approaches that are faster and less costly, while also emphasizing victim protection and recovery.

However, she emphasized that laws alone are not enough to tackle bullying. In addition to legal frameworks, the success of this initiative depends on the courage of the public to speak up and take action. Victims need to appear to receive assistance, while witnesses of bullying incidents must also have the courage to speak out, as bullying is not a game and cannot be normalized in any situation.

The tribunal serves as an alternative channel for victims who feel their complaints are not being handled appropriately by educational institutions, and it also addresses bullying cases involving children outside the school system.
