On June, the Anti-Bullying Tribunal, established earlier this year, received 55 complaints, said Minister of Law and Institutional Reform Azalina Othman Said. Five of these cases were concluded with awards, including one where the bully was ordered to apologize to the victim, undergo counseling, and pay compensation of RM2,000. This demonstrates the Tribunal's approach to tackling bullying, which goes beyond punitive measures and emphasizes victim rehabilitation and offender reformation, she said in a statement.

The 2026 Anti-Bullying Act and the Tribunal also provide a specialized mechanism for handling bullying issues through restorative approaches faster and more cost-effectively, while emphasizing the importance of victim protection and rehabilitation. However, the Minister emphasized that the law alone is not enough to address the bullying problem.

Alongside legal framework, the success of this approach depends on the bravery of the public to speak up and take action. Victims need to come forward for support, while witnesses must also have the courage to speak out because bullying is not a game and cannot be normalized under any circumstances. The Tribunal functions as an alternative channel for victims whose complaints are not handled appropriately by educational institutions, and it also handles cases involving children outside the school system.
