Thailand, Russia plan 130th anniversary celebrations

Thailand and Russia are preparing cultural events to commemorate 130 years of diplomatic ties in 2027. Culture ministers from both nations met in Russia to discuss artistic exchanges and methods to boost Thailand's creative economy globally. Thai Culture Minister Sabida Thaised conversed with her Russian counterpart, Olga Lyubimova, at Russia’s Ministry of Culture on September 22.

The discussion centered on preparations for the 130th anniversary of Thailand-Russia relations and enhancing collaboration under a cultural memorandum of understanding. The accord covers personnel exchanges, support for performing arts and music, museum cooperation, and cultural exchange activities. Both sides deliberated on transforming these cooperation areas into tangible programs.

Thailand's Ministry of Culture also suggested expanding knowledge and expertise exchanges in arts and culture, including special Russian exhibitions in Thailand. The Thai delegation affirmed its willingness to support cooperation across all discussed areas. Cultural cooperation could generate jobs, career opportunities, and income for Thai entrepreneurs, artists, craftspeople, and professionals in creative and cultural industries.

These exchanges aim to provide individuals from both countries the chance to showcase their talents, share knowledge, and participate in international activities. The ministry anticipates that such cooperation will enhance Thailand's image as a cultural tourism destination, attract more Russian visitors, and stimulate economic growth while distributing income to local communities over the longer term.
