Sony Music has become the first music company to join the Alliance for Responsible Innovation in the Arts & Media (ARIAM), a group dedicated to ensuring responsible AI usage in the creative industry. ARIAM's other members include The Walt Disney Co., BBC, Condé Nast, The New York Times, Fox Entertainment, and Adobe. The organization operates on the principle of recognizing creative opportunities from AI, believing in technology when it's done right, and adhering to copyright laws while promoting collaboration between companies and rightsholders.

Sony's Chief Operating Officer, Kevin Kelleher, expressed the company's commitment to protecting music and aligning with ARIAM's belief that responsible AI partnerships are crucial to fostering innovation, supporting creators, and maintaining a thriving environment for consumers. Conversely, Sony and Universal Music Group recently filed a lawsuit against AI company Suno, alleging that it infringes on artists' rights to control their works, decide on future uses, and determine with which products and services they associate.

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), Association of Independent Music (A2IM), and Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) have also joined forces to propose regulations for AI-generated music on streaming services and charts.
