Seminoles miss match play by two strokes at Jackson T. Stephens Cup

Florida State's women's golf team finished fifth at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup after missing match play by two strokes. The tournament, held in Frisco, Texas, featured a field including this year's National Collegiate Athletic Association champion and the defending champion. Head coach Amy Bonds' team entered the event aiming to defend their first-ever ACC title from the previous spring.

Coach Bonds expressed that her team did not play their best golf during the tournament, noting it was a slight letdown following their victory in the previous week's Folds of Honor Collegiate at American Dunes Golf Club. She acknowledged that seeing their opponents in person was beneficial, as they realized they could compete with them all.

The Seminoles finished with a 54-hole team score of 21-over par, just ahead of Stanford University, which was the reigning national champion. Sophomore Haruhi Nakatani led the team, finishing tied for 13th after shooting 2-over 74, 2-under 70, and 5-over 77 throughout the tournament. Junior Alexandra Gazzoli and Alexandra Gazzoli also tied for 13th. Freshmen Elin Pudas Remler and Louise Landgraf performed strongly in the final rounds, placing 19th and 19th, respectively.

Bonds attributed the team's early struggles in the tournament to a slow start in both the first and third rounds. However, she remained optimistic about their progress, emphasizing the importance of starting stronger and being more focused at the beginning of rounds. The team will look to improve their performance in the upcoming Schooner Fall Classic at the University of Oklahoma on September 19-21.
