Gary "Angry" Anderson, the charismatic frontman of the Australian rock band Rose Tattoo, has passed away at the age of 79. Rose Tattoo announced his death on the eve of September 21, 2026, with a statement revealing that he had passed away surrounded by his loved ones in Australia. The band had been on the road for their 50th anniversary tour when Anderson suffered a heart attack in August while touring in Europe.

The remainder of the tour, including planned shows in Australia, had to be cancelled due to Anderson's ill health. Despite his toughness, Anderson was known for his softer side, having been a vocal advocate for disadvantaged young Australians and receiving a Member of the Order of Australia in 1993 for his community service. Anderson's music career began in the 1970s with the band Buster Brown, but it was with Rose Tattoo that he achieved mainstream success, with hits like "Bad Boy for Love," "Rock 'n' Roll Outlaw," and "We Can't Be Beaten."

His biggest solo hit, "Suddenly," was later featured in a popular Australian soap opera, Neighbours, which helped it become a top 10 hit in the UK. Anderson's life extended beyond music, as he made sporadic appearances in movies and Australian television. However, his legacy will primarily be remembered through his contributions to the Australian rock scene, with Rose Tattoo being inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2006.

Anderson's family and bandmates requested privacy during this difficult time and asked for respect in not giving interviews. They expressed their gratitude for the prayers and messages of love and support from the community.
