Launch of Gbidukor Za and its significance to the development of the Gbi states and Ghana as a while

On September 9, 2026, the 31st Gbi-dukor Za festival was inaugurated in Hohoe, Volta region, marking the commencement of preparations for the grand celebration in December. Since its inception in 1995, the festival has been a biennial event between the Gbi-Dzigbe and Gbi-Nyigbe traditional areas, rotating annually. It serves as a medium to promote cultural values, showcase economic potentials, and foster unity among the Chiefs and people of both Gbi States, who share ancestral lineage from migrated Ewe ethnic groups.

The festival has significantly contributed to the development of the two areas, creating employment opportunities, and attracting tourists, thus boosting Ghana's economy. Despite its achievements, some argue that thirty years of the festival's existence could have yielded more accomplishments. Nonetheless, the Gbi-dukor Za remains a crucial force in the development, progress, and unity of the Gbi States, with its 2026 theme, "Transforming Lives Through The Gbi-dukor Education Endowment Fund," emphasizing the importance of education in societal growth.
