Trump was expected to personally greet him upon landing at Andrews Air Force Base, a rare honor for American leaders who typically wait for their visitors at the White House.

The visit comes as both the tariff truce and the future of artificial intelligence are at stake. While no major historic agreements are expected, the encounter aims to deepen understanding between the world's two largest economies to maintain a delicate balance, avoiding an open economic war. One of the most contentious issues to be addressed is the extension of the tariff truce, set to expire on November 10. To facilitate this, both leaders are working towards a possible extension.

Recent talks have centered on artificial intelligence, with both countries opposing a slowdown in technological advancements for safety reasons. However, the US has offered China a joint alert system for concerning events, such as those involving autonomous hacking of external companies by OpenAI's ChatGPT. China seems willing to develop this joint surveillance, but negotiations will continue in a future technical meeting in China.

Technology will be a crucial topic during Xi's visit, with Trump organizing a dinner for tech leaders like Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Sundar Pichai, Jensen Huang, Sam Altman, Michael Dell, Satya Nadella, Jane Fraser, and Tim Cook. The summit is also expected to address tensions stemming from the US-Iran war, which has driven up oil prices, as well as the sensitive issue of Taiwan, which China claims sovereignty over and to which Washington refuses to sell weapons.
