The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has revoked the food safety permits for two establishments in Pune – Rangla Punjab and Manisha Dosa Centre – due to breaches of food safety and hygiene standards. This decision came after a targeted inspection campaign carried out just before the festive period.
Both establishments were found to be in violation of their license conditions and food safety guidelines. As a result, authorities seized illegal and potentially harmful food items worth ₹1.18 crore, arrested six individuals, registered four FIRs, and even sealed one of the establishments. Vehicles belonging to one of the businesses were also confiscated, amounting to a total value of ₹23 lakh.
The FDA conducted inspections in Pune, Sangli, and Kolhapur as part of a larger enforcement drive. Inspectors looked for substandard, adulterated, or mislabeled food products during the checks. The department stated that the nationwide operation included 18 venues across the Brihanmumbai, Pune, Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Nagpur regions.
Speaking on the matter, FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe emphasized that stringent measures would be taken against businesses that endanger consumers' health. He warned that establishments dealing in expired or adulterated food, or operating in unsanitary and unsafe conditions, would be held accountable. The FDA has also called upon citizens to report any concerns regarding food quality or suspected malpractice. Complaints can be filed through the toll-free number 1800222365 or the Food and Drug Grievance Portal.
