Polis teramai dapat ganjaran lapor rasuah, kata SPRM

Ketua Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia (SPRM) Abd Halim Aman revealed that the police force, being the largest civil service, received merit awards for reporting or receiving bribes between 2012 and 2025. The total award money given by the government amounted to RM1.18 million to 652 civil servants. Abd Halim noted that the police force accounts for 437 individuals receiving recognitions, whereas immigration officers had 64, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (33), and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Welfare (21).

"Among the high-profile cases, a police officer in Perlis rejected a RM200,000 bribe related to smuggling 1.8 tonnes of opium, along with a RM45,000 bribe denial in Johor," he said according to Kosmo. Abd Halim further stated that for the assessment period of 2026, up to 54 potential civil servants from the four enforcement agencies would be nominated by the Assessment Secretariat.

Among them are 38 police officers, Iskandar Puteri City Council (12), Kuala Lumpur City Hall (3), and immigration officers (1). "This year's assessment involved 30 case studies with a total bribe amount of RM304,621. All nominees cleared the SPRM scrutiny process and met the police professionalism criteria to ensure they meet the set qualifications.

Of these, 529 individuals received awards along with certificates, while 123 individuals received merit certificates," Abd Halim explained. He stated that civil servants nominated for the awards must lodge a formal complaint about the receipt or acceptance of bribes and cooperate fully with SPRM investigators until the legal proceedings are finalized.

"This merit award initiative has been extended not only to enforcement agencies but to the entire civil service sector, especially revenue officers, to encourage them to come forward and report information to curb bribery activities."
