Police conduct searches at five places linked to Gem Granites chairman Veeramani

On Wednesday, Central Crime Branch (CCB) detectives conducted search warrants at five locations associated with Gem Granites chairman R. Veeramani, who is currently in custody for allegedly sexually assaulting minor girls. The searches occurred in two bungalows belonging to Veeramani, as well as his office on Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai and a guest house in Teynampet. A team of approximately 30 officers, alongside Anti-Vice Squad officials, participated in the investigations.

The case was registered by the CCB on October 7, 2025, following an anonymous tip-off containing a pen drive and a cover filled with allegedly incriminating materials. During the investigation, police recognized an elderly man in one of the videos as Veeramani. Veeramani leased a Teynampet residence, entrusting its management to Shanthi and her husband, Mahendra Simhan, both accused of aiding the offenses.

Videos purportedly showing the assaults were seized as evidence, and further material, including photographs of numerous minor girls and women, was also discovered. Veeramani, Shanthi, and Mahendra Simhan were arrested and remanded into judicial custody on August 29.

The CCB intensified the probe, uncovering nine alleged victims subjected to sexual assaults allegedly committed by Veeramani at his connected premises. Authorities are scrutinizing financial transactions and property dealings involving Veeramani and his associates, with a property transaction worth around ₹70 crore currently under examination.

On Tuesday, police apprehended Ganesan, a former Gem Granites employee who had worked for 23 years, after finding a video on his mobile phone related to the case. He is now under questioning to determine the source of the video and why he did not report it to the authorities.
