Player management key for Springboks in one-off Wallabies Test

The Springboks are preparing for their upcoming one-off Test against the Wallabies at Optus Stadium in Perth on Sunday. Coach Rassie Erasmus has implemented a player management policy to ensure the team is at its best for this crucial encounter. The Boks have been on the move for the past three months, playing eight Tests, including four in the Great Rivalry series against the All Blacks, a non-Test against the Barbarians, and a game in Argentina.

This demanding schedule has required Erasmus to manage the players effectively, with 13 changes made from the final All Blacks Test in Baltimore to face the Wallabies. Despite these changes, nine players from the US game remain in the match 23, many of whom have been on the bench and have played a significant amount of rugby, creating a battle-hardened group for the second half.

Erasmus emphasized the importance of player management, stating that the team had a few days off to recover from the recent Tests and travel before resuming their usual Test week programme. The Springboks are facing a formidable opponent in the Wallabies, who have won four of their last five matches, including a narrow defeat against Ireland in the Nations Championship and a comprehensive victory over Italy.

The Wallabies will also be playing in front of their home crowd, adding to the significance of this high-stakes game for the Springboks. Notably, utility forward Pieter-Steph du Toit and centre Damian de Allende have been rested due to their heavy workload this season, allowing them to spend time with their families.
