Plateau: BYM President escapes death as gunmen ambush Operation Rainbow, kill four

Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, President of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), narrowly avoided death on Tuesday after gunmen ambushed security personnel involved in Operation Rainbow in Plateau State. The attack resulted in the deaths of one security personnel and three civilians in two separate incidents in Rakok community, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.

Mwantiri claimed he was spared from the ambush, which occurred along Gagshi Road, as he was responding to a distress call. The security personnel were caught off guard by the terrorists' ambush. Mwantiri emphasized that the security situation in the state has become more severe, as attacks are no longer limited to nighttime but also occur during the day.

He called upon security personnel and relevant authorities to remain vigilant in their efforts to safeguard lives and property and restore peace to the affected communities. Eyewitness Lawrence Gyang confirmed the incident to local reporters, stating that the victims were on their way to attend a funeral when they were killed. According to an anonymous operative of Operation Rainbow, the security team encountered the ambush around 4 pm when they responded to a distress call.
