Penang police chief calls for vigilance against extremism, fake news

George Town, Penang: In a bid to maintain national unity and security, Penang's police chief Datuk Dennis Lim emphasized the importance of vigilance against extremism, fake news, and provocative content at the 2026 Malaysia Madani Nationhood Seminar. The seminar, held at the Marine Police Force Region 1 community hall, aimed to strengthen the understanding of Malaysia's history, national identity, governance system, and direction among 400 police personnel across two sessions.

Key topics included the role of the National Civics Academy, Rukun Negara, and six core values of Malaysia Madani. Lim stressed that the effectiveness of the police force depended not only on operational capabilities but also on the values, knowledge, and sense of identity of its personnel. He urged the officers to uphold their responsibilities with honesty, integrity, and professionalism while fostering cooperation and esprit de corps within the force.

Lim also highlighted the significance of critical thinking in navigating a complex information landscape, particularly when dealing with false claims and divisive material. The seminar's insights were expected to be applied in daily duties to enhance service delivery and bolster public confidence in the police.
