Pederson on i.l., Quantrill’s season over

Joc Pederson, the Texas Rangers' outfielder, was placed on the 10-day injured list following a broken hand injury he sustained on September 12. To replace him, the Rangers activated Michael Helman from the 60-day injured list. In turn, to accommodate Helman on the 40-man roster, the Rangers moved Cal Quantrill from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.

Pederson's season ended on a disappointing note, having posted a solid .235/.329/.487 batting average in 432 plate appearances across 136 games as the team's primary designated hitter against right-handed pitching. The Rangers hoped Pederson would recover in time for the playoffs, but it seems unlikely. Quantrill's departure from the team means he will not return for the 2026 season, as his lat strain is a common injury that typically sidelines pitchers for several months.

Helman, on the other hand, had last played in the majors on June 13 after dealing with multiple fractures in his hands and fingers. He played five games for Round Rock on a rehab assignment before being activated from the injured list. Now, Helman may serve as a late-game pinch runner or defensive replacement option.
