P.P. Umer Musliyar Koyyode chosen Samastha general secretary

P.P. Umar Musliyar Koyyode from Kannur has been selected as the new general secretary of the Sunni scholars' forum, Samastha Kerala Jem-iyyathul Ulama. He has been serving as the treasurer of the organisation and was chosen during a 'mushawara' (executive committee) meeting held in Kozhikode on September 23, 2026. The position had become vacant following the death of the incumbent, K. Alikutty Musliyar, in July.

M.T. Abdulla Musliyar, the joint secretary, had temporarily taken charge. Syed Mohammed Jifri Muthukoya Thangal, the Samastha president, announced that Mr. Abdulla Musliyar would become the new treasurer. Other members of the executive committee include V. Moosakoya Musliyar (Wayanad), A.V. Abdurahman Musliyar (Kozhikode), and Panangangara Hyder Faizy (Malappuram).

A consultative committee of eight members has been formed to deliberate on important matters, as 'mushawara' meetings are held only twice a month. The committee will consist of the president, general secretary, treasurer, and members P.K. Hamsakutty Musliyar Adrissery, Vakkod Moideenkutty Musliyar, P.M. Abdulsalam Baqavi, and others.

The 'fatwa' committee will also be reconstituted to address important questions related to the Samastha. Mr. Thangal mentioned that the new committee would discuss the criticism made by Samastha secretary Mukkam Umar Faizy against the Indian Union Muslim League and the United Democratic Front government regarding the Waqf dispute.
